Weekend: Movies, Cars, and Relationships

This weekend was definitely filled with movies. Saw Shrek 2 for the second time… didn’t really see anything new except for the end clip in the middle of the credits. Also Around the World in 80 Days was pretty good. We also watched several movies at Amanda’s house and a couple at her sister’s apartment. Finally, I borrowed 6 movies I’d never seen and bought 2 from Blockbuster (wow, Blockbuster is a much nicer place to buy ex-rentals than Hastings: No ugly stickers on the discs, and a lifetime guarantee), so I should be set for… at least the next couple of days.

Yay for libraries!

So I’m getting my oil changed in Dyersville (First time I’ve had some place do it), and we found a library! Yay for feeding my computer addiction! Plans for the rest of the day: Pizza with the rest of the family, then Shrek 2 for Becca’s birthday.

I think I’ll enjoy the half hour of peace and quiet I get now….

Plans for the weekend

You know, maybe with this being my actual webpage and whatnot, I’ll update once in awhile. (For those who are new to my page, I had a similar journal elsewhere, but, while I had good intentions, I never seemed to update it) Then again, maybe not. But I can talk about this weekend!

I’ll be heading back to the technologically-void farm of Amanda’s parents. Okay, so it’s not technologically void, but there’s no internet. So no updates over the weekend (I’m sure you’re all dissapointed). Actually, it kindof feels good to starve off my Internet addiction for a few days. Plus it’s actually fun to be there lately. At least, last weekend wasn’t so stressful. Who knows, maybe I’ll even milk some cows this weekend! I’ll definitely take in a couple movies (it’s Becca’s birthday, so we’re going to Shrek 2) and prepare some meals.

Pretty Decent Weekend

All in all, Memorial Day weekend was pretty good. Amanda came down Friday night, and we spent all day Saturday walking around Ames. We probably (definitely) spent way too much money eating out, but we had a good time. Then Sunday, we went to my nephew’s graduation and open house. I at way too much pizza, cookies, and mints. Today we had grilled chicken and the family staple of scalloped corn (great, my regular journal entries now center around food).

So… I’ve spent about 5 minutes of my entire life on a skateboard. This morning I completely wiped out just trying to stand on the stupid thing. No more. I claim I missed the age where I could learn to do this, and will just resign myself to bikes, cars, and busses. Time for bed with a bloody elbow and bruised hip! Though I did play some basketball this weekend and remembered how to shoot and actually get the ball in the hoop. Real life is interesting once in awhile!

Immune system getting a workout

I swear, a couple more years of visiting the Weber farm and I’ll be immune to anything. I seem to come down with something different each time I go there. Actually lately I seem to be getting assaulted too, but I’m told that means they’re accepting me as one of the family. Still, RC cars leave a mark on your skull… (JK Webers, I’m not upset or anything!)

Naw, I like going to her house. I finally have the names of her 10 siblings (Theresa, Jenny, Abby, Katie, Mike, Anna, Ben, Becca, Jared, Louis) and her parents down, and I’m slowly learning the names of her ten million relatives. I still haven’t gotten any good "farm" experience, but one of these days this city-boy is gonna learn how to milk cows (Insert Cledus T. Judd song here) and help out with other stuff. I’m up at 5am anyway… I figure I might as well learn something!

This weekend was mainly for me to meet Abby again, though I only saw her for about 5 minutes. They had a party for her on Sunday afternoon, so I met a bunch of relatives too. Took Amanda to a Lutheran church that we both got kinda weirded out about. Then we got stuck in the mud ’cause her car’s such a lightweight and the lot was new soil/gravel. Think maybe I can live through the Catholic services, or we could try the other church she talked about. Meh. I guess we both find traditional Catholic and Lutheran services very liturgical, and we don’t get as much out of them as we do from places like Cornerstone here in Ames or the baptist church she goes to in Wisconsin. Maybe that’s it. We’ll both become Baptist. 🙂

Anyway, good weekend. I’m sick on and off… mostly just a bad cold: running nose, sore throat, head-in-a-bubble. Probably a virus or something. I’ll get over it soon. Yay!

CyRide and the like.

Well, there’s one question answered. I’m not going to be a dispatcher. Guess I can see this as better than having to make the decision myself. Though I was rather sumarrily denied the position by a terrible "oral test" score… i.e. I totally failed the interview. Ah well. This way I still get to see Amanda, and I can take that week off this summer. All around I suppose it’ll be easier to get time off. Hmm. Maybe I’ll still get to be an instructor in a month or two. Then I’ll make something like 11.50 while training. Not quite 15, but it’s something :-).

Well, Amanda and I spent the weekend together. Couple rough patches, but overall we had a good time. We went ice skating on Saturday and saw a valentine’s proposal. This guy got down on his knee in the center of the rink while the girl was looking all around. Then he slipped a ring on her finger…. we assumed she said yes ’cause they hugged and skated around together some more… even though she wasn’t really watching where she was going…. more focused on the ring and him. Ahh l’amor. Or whatever that means in french….

What a crazy life.

I can distincly recall three times over the last two weeks when I wanted to update but didn’t. However, I cannot recall what I was going to update about, so nuts to that.

Let’s see. Thanksgiving break was great. I got to spend a lot of time with Amanda, got to build my new computer. finished a paper or two, and had Thanksgiving with the whole family. All nieces and nephews present (I can say that now that I have 2 nephews…. well 3 if you count ny niece’s new husband). Then I spent a couple days at Amanda’s home and got to play a bunch with Luis, the cute little puffball. He seemed to like it when I mooed, so either I should become a cow, or he will be well suited to his dairy-farm life. Moo

Coming back to school, of course I had two projects due at 5pm today so that was lovely. Of course I worked on them a bunch last night. Now I have an exam on Thursday, and a cookbook lab plus a big lab project in EE333 to finish by next week. Other than that, things look pretty cake-easy. Stress-free end (hopefully) to a good semester.

Christmas Tree light Surgery Complete!

I *had* three strings of christmas lights encircling my room. When DPS came, they took down one of them to get to above-my-wardrobe. I couldn’t ever get the string to work again, so I just balled it up and put it in my closet. The other day though, half of a 2nd string went out… the part that was over my bed! The ambient light went way down in the room. Well this evening I bumped that string and suddently it came back on. Except the lights were rather bright. Extremely bright even. I counted 7 burned out bulbs, but when I counted again, there were 9…. so I figured I needed a transplant before the whole thing died!

I pulled out the string from the closet and just started replacing bulbs. Some would burn out as soon as I put them in the line…. shock I guess from too much current 🙂 But eventually I had them all in. 1 I had to re-replace ’cause it burned out when I was working on others. Anyway, I now have lights around 2/3 of my room so that’s something at least!

That was a long entry just about lights. I was going to complain about physics and life in general…. Perhaps another time.
