I like my red car

So.. in addition to everything else that went wrong last month with my car, I developed a leak in the transmission fluid line. After being told that it would cost more than $150 to fix, I figured I could live with the quart-a-month fluid the leak drops out. Hey… I’m getting a free, albeit gradual, transmission fluid exchange!

So anyway… I bought a case of this stuff at SAM’s today and proceeded to add a quart in the parking lot. Clutzy me knocked over the half-full container, pouring fluid all down the front of my car. I got most of it wiped up… but the good news: my car is red! I meant to get to a gas station and wipe more of it off, but Ames stations started annoying me with their 5-10-cent price differences. I’ll just get gas on my way out of town tomorrow. I cleaned up the rest of the fluid at home. Hopefully it doesn’t do much damage :- .

Annoying Nokias

Ugh. I’m tired of my cell phone not being a reliable alarm. I had it set for 7:00am this morning, so I’d have time to get ready for my 8:00 exam. Woke up really groggy thinking, due to the light, it must still be before 6. After laying in bed for awhile, I decided to pick up my phone (the nearest clock I could see without my glasses) and saw that it was 7:40. I jumped out, got dressed, packed my pag, and ran out to the bus within 4 minutes. Pretty impressive… but I was still groggy and didn’t have any time to prepare for the test. Still… I think it went well. I knew most of what was on it. Guess we’ll see when the grades come out.

Now onto algorithms, networking, choir, and senior design. Nice long day for me.

We get email…

Hey, I got email working the way it’s supposed to on this server. This means two important things: webmail and comments.

First: Webmail. Rememer when I said I had a mail server working? Well now, check it out! You can have a digimuzik.com email address, check-able from any email program on your computer OR from a webmail interface! Anyone interested?! No? Oh… well that’s okay. Let me know if you change your mind.

I also receive an e-mail now whenever you comment on one of my posts. This is not too useful because NO ONE READS MY BLOG! But that’s okay… someday I’ll email my family about this and get 2 or 3 more viewers. But for anyone who does read… go ahead and click on the “Comments” link after any entry you want to comment on, even the really, really old ones.

Footnote… again for family members or anyone who doesn’t get it, the title of this entry is a paraphrasing from a classic internet annimation about a really old, poorly-translated video game. My Inglish izunt kwite that bad…

I have brakes!

Yay! I have brakes on my car. Thanks to my dispatcher’s husband, I spent about half of what CarX wanted, plus I got a free starter!!! Er… well, once it was all said and done, I spent half as much on brakes+starter as CarX wanted for just the brakes. Okay… I’m confused now.

Anyway… This last weekend was the Iowa State Singers’ Fall Retreat. Pretty fun; met a bunch of the new people we have in choir this year. Played “I’ve Never” and landed in the middle more than a couple times. Fell over in my chair to the amusement of everyone else. Yeah! Fun times! Should be a good year with singers.

Since I’m writing this DURING CprE 585, I think I’m closer to making the decision to drop this class. I could use the $60 from the book, and who wouldn’t love three extra hours of free time in the week? Seriously, though… I can’t understand the instructor, and I’m seriously questioning how much I will use this material in my future career.

Three small paragraphs… three seperate subjects. Sweet!

Old cars get expensive

My car’s been nice to me. Even though hail trashed a window last year, and I’ve gone through a couple of tires and other miscelaneous parts including a cruise control amplifier (whatever that is), I haven’t had any major problems it it.

SO. After this summer’s vacation, my brakes were squealing a bit after takeoff. And then a couple weeks ago they started grinding. So I take it into CarX to see what’s up. They said $550 for new brakes in the rear and $450 to replace my coil springs which they just happened to notice were broken. I told them to wait, considering I paid barely twice that for the car.

Yay for CyRide dispatchers with husbands who work on cars! Jen’s husband is helping me out with the brakes. Worst-case scenario, we’ll have to replace calipers only. Best case would be just new pads. And the coil springs are only cracked way on the bottom, so they’re fine to leave the way they are. But anyway… I had my car over at their house for him to look at. When I was ready to leave, I turned the key and “click… click.” We played with the battery for an hour, but there was nothing wrong with it. Apparently my starter is toast, so we just added another $100 to this car. *Sigh* Fun things going wrong with old cars. I suppose it could’ve easily been a whole lot worse. Question is… do I get rid of the thing as soon as it works, or keep on driving it until the next major malfunction? I suppose if I’m spending money on parts now, I might as well keep it for awhile. It’s still a nice car… fully wired up with 12VDC and 120VAC power :-D. Yay geekdom!

next-to-last college semester!

… is this thing on? check… 1, 2, 3…

Hey cool. This thing does still work. Sorry about not updating… I was enjoying the last weeks of summer to the fullest extent. (that and I’ve been trying to get away from the computer more often)

So, it’s the third day of classes and, if I had to give a rating to the start of the semester, it would be slightly below average. Then again, yesterday was an all-around bad day, so maybe it’s not as bad as it seems. Anyway, classes review to continue…

Permalinks are annoying

Actually, I believe it was mod_rewrite. Actually… I don’t know. But somehow I got it working now, so all the pages linked around here have “pretty” url’s like:

rather than a big funky string that doesn’t make any sense. Probably not of any interest to anyone, but I’m proud of myself for getting it to work!
