Well, I’ve finally done it. I’ve worked at cyride for about 26 months and finally earned my one-year safe driver’s award. Not because I had an accident to delay it, but because it’s awarded for one year of full-time driving hours (i.e. 2080 hours). Working 20 hours a week during the school year and even less in the summers, it’s taken me over two years to earn this. Which in a way says that I’ve actually been a safe driver for two years, not just one. Either way, it’s nice to get. Though I don’t get a shirt or anything, I will get my picture up on the “safe driver” board. Hey… it’s the little things.
On a coincidentally unrelated note, I also started my nine-month term on the safety committee on Oct. 1. I guess I don’t get to make any big decisions affecting the entire CyRide system, but I am part of a team that reviews any accidents that occur and judge them “preventable” or “non-preventable.” Basically I’ll get to see all those accident reports drivers see other drivers filling out in the break room but never get to read themselves because it’s all confidental/private info. We don’t support rumors at CyRide… If a picture mysteriously drops off the driver’s photo board without a “GoodLuck” send-off on the message plaque, we all pretty much know something happened that we aren’t supposed to know/talk about. Now maybe I’ll have the inside scoop. At least I’ll be serving through the winter snow/ice months, so I may get to see some interesting reports.
I’ll relay all the juicy details back on here….
(Just kidding Bob, Karen, and all my other supervisors at CyRide…)
