So… last week, I think it was Wednesday or something, Amanda calls me while I’m in Los Angeles and randomly asks me what we should do for our honeymoon. So we looked at some ideas, threw some out, looked at others, reconsidered the first idea again, and a week later, we somehow have everything booked!
We have a two-room fireplace/whirlpool suite booked for “the night.” On Sunday we take off for Chicago for a mid-afternoon flight up to Vancouver, Canada. A Boeing MD-80 is a rather small plane (5 seats, 1 aisle), but we did get to pick seats and we got the 2-seat side. Sunday evening we have a hotel room with some kind of “gift” in the room (comes with the package I guess).
The main haul is a 7-day Alaska cruise on the Sun Princess! I guess I’ve never had any big ambition for what I’d like to do on a honeymoon, though I always thought “Um, I guess a cruise would be nice.” Amanda’s always wanted to go on an Alaskan cruise, so this seemed like the perfect time. We’ll be sailing from Vancouver to Whittier, stopping along the way at Ketichan, Juneao, Skagway and heading through Glacier Bay and College Fjord (I’ll be paying my respects to Slartibartfast’s handiwork!). Since we’re not (yet) made of money, we chose an inside cabin, but we’re two rooms away from the main elevators, and we’ll have several excursions planned. Besides, the ship is huge! There are at least 4 pools, 4 whirlpools, half a dozen places to eat, two theaters, a casino, and a ton of other things to keep us occupied just on board. There are dozens of excursions to choose from at each place we land, so we’ll have plenty of things to do outside our little inside room.
The day we arrive in Whittier, we relax all day, take our time catching a Princess shuttle bus to Anchorage to catch a 9:30 overnight flight direct to Chicago, and then drive home Tuesday morning… wheverever home may end up being. We’re still not quite sure on that one… Anyway, we have plans now, and we’re both excited and looking forward to it!
