This weekend with Amanda went great! Though we spent over 10 hours watching movies/TV, we did manage to get out for a bit without spending too much money.
Friday night we stayed in and watched Ocean’s 11 with Tom and Jody. Late-night movies make for a tired Benji, so I zonked out on the couch immediately afterwards. My first task Saturday morning was to finally get my car fixed (at the suggestion/prodding of my parents). Amanda and I wandered around Hastings and Borders looking at DVD sets of old TV Shows. Next up on my list: the first season of Mork and Mindy… only $32 at BB! A couple hundred dollars and a new transmission line later, we headed over to movies 12 to see “Raise Your Voice.” Pretty good movie: nice plot, good music… but lousy accuracy. In a movie about artists, you’d expect some musically-inclined viewers… who would probably notice when piano-playing, guitar-strumming, and cymbal-crashing were out of sync or (as what appeared to be the case usually) completely faked. Amanda says she didn’t notice… so good for her. But it annoyed me a bunch!
After spending this money on my car and not noticing any physical improvement (the only benefit is knowing my transmission will probably not explode this winter now), I felt like I needed to see something for my money…. so I bought the 2nd season of Voyager on DVD! Talk about sharp!!! We watched the pilot from my soon-to-arive 1st season set, then watched the first episode on my new dvds. Wow. I’m hooked 🙂 . After that, it was over to Russ’s place for movies and pizza. Hackers and Hackers 2, along with a couple Dilberts and an Invader Zim episode made for a rather long, but enjoyable night. Between movies we ran out and heckled a moonlight driver, riding his bus to the Kwik Shop, 50 feet down the block. Funny part was… neither Russ nor I knew the driver. Heh. Being a bus driver is fun!
Sunday morning I was up to work at the Resource Center at cornerstone… didn’t have much to do since they were out of CDs, but I made tapes and took about 5324 orders during the 11:15 rush (equipping hour released, 2nd service released, and people arriving for 3rd service!) After church, we ate some packed sandwiches and then braved the Ames corn maze. Apparently we got the dull end of the stick this year… the front(head) of the new Iowa quarter…. Knoxville had the back. It only took us one hour to get through the two halves of the maze (I think it was something like 2 last year). But that’s okay, because I was kindof exhausted after a late night and a long morning.
The plan was for me to snooze while Amanda watched TV for a half hour. Instead, we got hooked on a documentary about Space Ship One that went on for the next 90 minutes. Our supper was appetizers at Dublin Bay (mmm irish nachos and really good cheese balls). We proceded to have a really good talk about life, the universe and everything (42!). …actually about faith and what we really belive and where we hope to go from here.
I would rate this weekend at an A+, partly for the enjoyment factor, but also due to our 100% success in our current primary goal. Scheduling was a big help this weekend. Hope we can keep it up!
