TGI-Friday

  • Rental Car Madness
  • Napping Goodness
  • Giant Mall Shopping….ness
  • Chuck E Cheese playfulness
  • Mervyn’s Savings…ness

Morning was spent fighting with different rental agencies trying to find a car for Amanda as close to the $20/day the insurance company would pay and that would also be open Sun afternoon/evening so she could get it without cutting our vacation shorter or missing half a day of work on Monday. She was pretty frazzled after that, so she took a nap and I … um, sat around I believe.

When she woke up, we made a quick trip to the Mall of America. I almost bought some puzzles and some techie toys, but exercised restraint. The trip was pretty much 3 hours of just walking around and going into different shops. The only thing we spent money on was a pretzel.

Chuck E. Cheese was a surprise for the kids that evening. Amanda and I were in on it, but the kids had no clue until we got there. Had some good, meaty pizza and then played a bunch of games, pretending to be kids again. Afterwards, we checked out a closing Mervyn’s store. At first we didn’t think there was anything left because we walked in, and all that remained were empty displays. But they had a bunch of items upstairs, and everything was 40% off. I got a new shirt (luckily… because I needed something to wear on Sunday!) and a large, much-needed bathmat for my apartment.

In the evening, we watched Big Fish with our hosts. When it was over, Julianne believed me that it was a very good, albeit strange, movie, even though we both had tears in our eyes. Some parts of the movie hit really close to home for us.

…not to end on a depressing note. The day itself was a pretty good day!
