Lost hearing in my right ear….

Posted on December 4, 2003 at 4:14 pm in

No actually, I proudly finished transfering my ftpserver, webserver, and IRC logging over to the new shuttle box, and for the first time this semester, turned off the mini-desktop computer. There’s seriously a very eerie silence coming from that corner of the room. It almost hurts my ear.

Heh, ah well. Nice new computer. Purrr…..

Blizzards are fun

Posted on December 2, 2003 at 4:05 pm in

So I get out of EE333 lab an hour late at 10:00, and get on Russ’s bus in our first Blizzard of the year. Knowing that we have a ton of newbies driving night shifts, I offer my services and end up just taking over the green minibus right in front of him. Maybe sliding around in a big bus would be fun, but I’ll probably get to do that tomorrow. The mini, though, was pretty sweet. Tap the brakes and the antilock comes on. You’d do donuts on ever corner…. lots of sliding fun. But when Russ offered his help at 10:30 they had almost everything covered…. so I said… "Um, if Russ wants some more hours, he could relieve me since I have an 8am class." So he did. And now I’m going to bed. Because I have an 8am class…. unless I’m snowed in. Meh.

What a crazy life.

I can distincly recall three times over the last two weeks when I wanted to update but didn’t. However, I cannot recall what I was going to update about, so nuts to that.

Let’s see. Thanksgiving break was great. I got to spend a lot of time with Amanda, got to build my new computer. finished a paper or two, and had Thanksgiving with the whole family. All nieces and nephews present (I can say that now that I have 2 nephews…. well 3 if you count ny niece’s new husband). Then I spent a couple days at Amanda’s home and got to play a bunch with Luis, the cute little puffball. He seemed to like it when I mooed, so either I should become a cow, or he will be well suited to his dairy-farm life. Moo

Coming back to school, of course I had two projects due at 5pm today so that was lovely. Of course I worked on them a bunch last night. Now I have an exam on Thursday, and a cookbook lab plus a big lab project in EE333 to finish by next week. Other than that, things look pretty cake-easy. Stress-free end (hopefully) to a good semester.

How big is my tank anyway??

Posted on November 17, 2003 at 3:26 am in

I used to think my car had a 12 gallon gas tank ’cause I never got more than 11.6 in even after running on E for a week. Last time I filled up, though, I got 12.7 gallons in, and today I put in 12.91. So maybe it’s 13 and I was really close this time, but 13 seems strange. But if it’s 14 or more then I think my gauge is way off. I dunno. We’ve been thinking this car has been pieced together from other cars, so it could have some really strange gas tank. But it looks just fine and runs pretty well too. Ahh well. Pretty car. Has good AC, cruise, and speakers. That’s all I really care about.

Yay Tracking Numbers!

Posted on November 14, 2003 at 1:21 pm in

I have 3 tracking numbers for the 3 parts of my computer that are coming. So I’ve been staring at them on the computer. Wednesday wednesday wednesday…. whee!

So I have to drive moonlight tonight. woo. hope I survive :-P

New computer fun, but getting expensive.

Posted on November 14, 2003 at 2:23 am in

So I dove in and am getting the parts to a new system. I was initially gonna keep the cost down below $400, and finally configured one for $430. Then I got a really good deal on a hard drive so it’s up to just under 500. Now I’m thinking it would be nice to get a CDRW/DVD combo drive for it for $50, instead of just the old junk reader I have lying around. But if I get that, then I’ll need to get a good video card so this thing is capable of displaying DVD video to a TV. ARGH!

Smart decision: hold off on the drive and video card until later…. save it for an upgrade. You already have a laptop with both of those things in it, so it works fine.

Okay good call. But wait…. then why are you getting a super-portable desktop? Argh!

There goes money.

That was almost an impulse buy. Well I’m tired and… ‘ya know. So I went to DSM and got my hard drive earlier tonight. And I just placed an order for the case and chip on newegg. All that’s left is memory and I have a brand new computer system. Yeesh that was quick. Ah well. It’s done now. Time for bed!

squirrels and bugs

Posted on November 12, 2003 at 5:34 pm in

Interesting bussing today. I hit a squirrel. :-( but it was already dead. Although it’s interesting to note how you hardly feel a small furry animal squish under your bus tires. Just a soft, little "bump," and that’s it.

I also saw a double-padidle (sp?)-beetle. It was missing one headlight and the opposite fog light. Funny lookin.

Not much else goin’ on. I beat Jak and Daxter within a week. I think it’s pretty good for a non-gamer like myself.

Okay week.

I think this week will be okay. Sometimes I get really stressed out about things, but when I can relax and take things easily… it’s so much less stressful. I have a CprE211 exam on Thursday, but it’s not over interrupts, so I should be fine. My Math 307 quiz was pushed back ’till next week. We’ll see this afternoon how I did on my CprE310 exam a couple weeks ago. EE333 lab will be another thing, but hopefully I can trudge through that without too much difficulty. Finished my homework that’s due at 3:30 today. No problem. Uh…. not much else to report.

So ends one of my most boring posts ever…. (but somebody says they read them so I might as well keep it up)

Yeesh….

Capital One must like me. They doubled my credit limit again. I’m now at $3K with a 9% fixed interest rate. Current Balance? $0.00 And planning to stay that way. Heh. I’ve never had more than $400 on credit at once, so it’s kinda funny. Ahh well. At least that means I’m in good standing…. or… something.
